Case IH F-175-15 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine Oil Temperature 1 - Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range - Least Severe Level

The engine oil temperature is running hotter than the normal operating parameters, triggering a low-level warning. It indicates an overheating condition that has not yet reached the most severe, critical shutdown threshold.

   Verify actual temperature using a manual temperature gauge or an infrared temperature gun on the engine block/oil pan to determine if the engine oil is genuinely overheating or if the sensor is providing a false reading

   Check oil level and condition using the dipstick to ensure it is not overfilled or underfilled, and inspect for coolant contamination (milky appearance) or extremely degraded oil

   Inspect the cooling package, including the radiator and engine oil cooler, for external blockages such as dust, chaff, dirt, or crushed fins

   Check the engine coolant level and temperature, as a hot-running engine will naturally elevate engine oil temperatures

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the engine oil temperature sensor for chafing, corrosion, or short circuits if the temperature reading is implausible

   Clean cooling package

   If the issue is airflow/cooling related: Thoroughly clean the exterior of the radiator and oil cooler fins using compressed air to remove chaff and debris.

   Test under load

   Run the tractor under load to see if the operating temperature stabilizes and the code clears.

   Locate sensor

   If the sensor has failed (false reading): Locate the engine oil temperature sensor on the engine block or oil cooler housing.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor.

   Remove faulty sensor

   Unscrew and remove the faulty sensor (have a catch pan ready for minor oil spillage).

   Install new sensor

   Install the new engine oil temperature sensor with its gasket/seal and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Clear fault code

   Use a diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the F-175-15 fault code from the ECU.

   Drain fluids

   If the engine is genuinely overheating and airflow is clean: Drain the engine oil and coolant.

    Replace cooler and thermostat

    Remove, inspect, and replace the engine oil cooler and oil cooler thermostat.

    Refill fluids

    Refill with genuine Case IH specified engine oil and coolant.
