Case IH F-2797-03 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injection bank 1 short circuit failure (all injectors of the same bank can be affected)
Issue description
Indicates a hardware error or short circuit detected in the fuel injectors assigned to Bank 1, or a failure in their respective power stages within the control module. Because the control scheme groups individual injector control circuits into banks, a dead short in one injector or its wiring can shut down the entire bank, potentially causing a severe misfire or a complete loss of engine power.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 400
- Axial-Flow Combines 240 Series
- 7230
- 8230
- 9230
- Puma Series Tractors
- Steiger Series Tractors
- Sugar Cane Harvesters A8000
- A8800
- A8810
Check the cause
Check for accompanying individual cylinder short circuit codes (e.g., DTC 6226, 6426, or 6626) to isolate the specific cylinder.
Visually inspect the fuel injector wiring harness for Bank 1 for chafed insulation, melted wires, or moisture intrusion in the connectors.
Disconnect the harness and test the resistance (Ohms) of the individual injectors on Bank 1 to rule out an internally shorted injector solenoid.
Check the ECU for the appropriate software version, as a re-flash may be required if no physical short is found.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during service.
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the main injector harness from the ECU and from the individual injectors on Bank 1. Use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground or continuity between the power and ground wires within the harness.
Repair/Replace Harness
If a short circuit is indicated in the wiring, repair the damaged section or replace the entire injector wire harness to restore factory weather-sealed connections.
Replace Faulty Injectors
If the harness tests good but an individual injector fails the resistance test (internal dead short), remove and replace the affected fuel injector.
ECU Service
If neither the harness nor the injectors are shorted, the ECU's internal power stage for Bank 1 may be damaged. Re-flash the ECU with the latest software. If the code persists, the ECU must be replaced.
Reassembly and Clearing
Reconnect all components, reconnect the battery, clear the inactive fault codes using a diagnostic tool, and run the engine to verify the repair.
