F-3509-3 - CGR

Case IH F-3509-3 - CGR – CGR: Sensor Supply 1 Circuit - Voltage Above Normal, or Shorted to High Source

Issue description

The 5V DC power supply connection to the sensor/receiver is shorted to a higher voltage (battery positive +) or the supply voltage is above the applicable range.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • STEIGER AFS Connect
  • AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Case IH Puma (e.g., 140, 150)
  • Case IH Maxxum (e.g., 125, 145)
  • Case IH Vestrum (e.g., 120, 130)
  • Case IH Optum (e.g., 300 CVT)
  • Case IH CX Series Excavators
  • WD2105 Windrowers

Check the cause

  1. Check the battery voltage to ensure the system is not overcharging

  2. Check the wiring harness for the correct voltage supply to the connected receiver/sensor and the ECM

  3. Inspect the controller pins (supply and return) for the CGR to verify they are not shorted to a higher voltage source

  4. Inspect the CGR Serial Interface Cable and the GPS Receiver wire harness for physical damage, rubbed through wires, or pin corrosion that could cause a short to battery positive (+)

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage.

  2. Disconnect CGR cable

Locate the CNH GNSS/Guidance Receiver (CGR) on the cab roof and disconnect the CGR Serial Interface Cable.

  3. Test 5V supply circuit

Using a multimeter, test the 5V supply circuit on the harness side for a short to battery voltage (12V).

  4. Trace and repair harness

If a short to battery positive is found, trace the GPS receiver wire harness back to the ECU/controller. Repair or replace the damaged section of the harness where the short is occurring.

  5. Replace faulty module

If the wiring tests good and the supply voltage from the ECU is correct, the internal circuitry of the CGR or the ECM itself may be faulty. Replace the affected module.

  6. Reconnect and verify

Reconnect all components, restore battery power, and clear the fault codes. Verify that the F-3509-3 code does not return and that the AFS guidance system acquires a signal.
