Case IH F-4334-10 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): DEF/AdBlue pressure stabilization failure

Issue description

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system is unable to build, maintain, or stabilize the required operating pressure (typically around 5 bar) in the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) dosing system.

Check the cause

  1. Verify DEF Level: Check if the DEF/Urea tank level was adequate when the failure occurred.

  2. Inspect the DEF Supply Filter: A clogged DEF filter is a primary cause of low flow and pressure stabilization faults.

  3. Check the Pressure and Backflow Lines: Inspect the DEF pressure lines for leaks, kinks, or urea crystallization. Verify that the backflow line returning to the DEF tank is open and unobstructed.

  4. Test the Heaters: Check the DEF tank heater and line heaters. If the DEF freezes or the heater valve sticks, the pump cannot build pressure.

  5. Perform a Pressure Test: Using a diagnostic tool, command the system to normal operating pressure (5 bar) and monitor if the pressure remains constant. If it drops, there is a leak, a failing pump, or a stuck dosing valve.

Repair steps

  1. Replace the DEF Filter

    If the filter has not been serviced recently, drain the DEF housing and replace the DEF supply filter element (70-micron filter). This resolves many pressure faults without further repair.

  2. Clean/Replace the Dosing Valve

    If the pressure test fails but the pump is running, remove the DEF dosing valve (injector) from the exhaust stream. Inspect it for severe crystallization. Clean or replace the injector if it is stuck open or clogged.

  3. Replace the DEF Pump/Supply Module

    If the lines are clear, the filter is new, and the system still cannot stabilize pressure, the DEF dosing pump has likely failed internally. Remove the pump assembly and install a replacement.

  4. Reprogram the Module

    Note: A new DEF pump/dosing module will usually need to be programmed/calibrated to the vehicle's ECU using a dealer diagnostic scanner after installation.

  5. Clear Codes

    Clear the F-4334-10 fault code and run a forced stationary regeneration or dosing system test to verify the repair.
