Case IH F-4360-01 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Upstream SCR catalyst temperature sensor voltage is lower than expected

The Engine Control Unit is receiving a voltage signal from the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) located before the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst that falls below the minimum normal operating threshold. This typically indicates a short to ground in the sensor's internal thermistor or a short in the wiring harness.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the upstream SCR temperature sensor for melted insulation, chafing, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

   With the key ON and the sensor unplugged, check the reference voltage from the ECU at the harness connector (typically 5V).

   While monitoring live data via the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST), unplug the sensor. If the fault code changes from F-4360-01 to F-4360-03, the wiring to the ECU is intact, confirming the sensor itself has failed internally.

   Preparation

   Turn off the machine, allow the exhaust system to cool completely, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the upstream exhaust gas temperature sensor. It is threaded into the exhaust pipe directly in front of the DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) / SCR unit.

   Removal

   Disconnect the 2-pole electrical connector. Using a 17mm wrench, carefully unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe. Note: Exhaust sensors frequently seize; penetrating oil may be required.

   Installation

   Clean the mounting boss threads. Apply a small amount of high-temperature anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come pre-applied).

   Torque

   Thread the new sensor in by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it securely with the 17mm wrench.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness and secure it away from direct heat sources. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the ignition ON and use the CNH diagnostic tool to clear the inactive F-4360-01 fault code. Start the engine and verify the code does not return.
