Case IH F-5006-14 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Overvoltage monitoring error
Issue description
The control module has detected a critical internal fault within its voltage monitoring circuitry, or it has registered an incoming voltage supply that exceeds the maximum safe operating threshold, triggering an internal protection fault.

Check the cause
Test system voltage using a multimeter to check battery voltage and alternator output while the engine is running. Ensure the alternator voltage regulator is not overcharging the system (spiking above 14.5V - 15V).
Inspect the main power supply and ground pins at the ECU harness connector. Look for shorts to a higher voltage source (B+ short) or severely corroded grounds.
Clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool and cycle the key. If external voltage is normal and wiring is intact but the code immediately returns, the failure is internal to the ECU hardware.
Repair steps
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable
to prevent electrical arcing.
Locate the Engine Control Unit (ECU)
typically mounted directly to the side of the engine block or on the firewall.
Carefully release the locking levers on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU.
Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECU to its bracket and remove the faulty module.
Install the replacement ECU and torque the mounting bolts to factory specifications.
Reconnect the wiring harness connectors
ensuring the locking levers are fully seated and secure.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to flash the ECU
with the correct software, engine calibration files, and injector trim codes for the specific tractor/combine.
