F-518144-09 - ECU

Case IH F-518144-09 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095): ECU internal failure - Internal SPI injector related timeout error

Issue description

The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus communication is monitored by the system once per every camshaft revolution. If the control module detects a timeout error in this SPI communication, it logs this fault. It essentially means the internal communication within the ECU regarding the fuel injectors has timed out or failed.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Puma Series Tractors (140, 155, 165, 180, 195, 210, 200)
  • Austoft 8800 and 9900 Sugar Cane Harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the fault code is still present and in an active state. If inactive, the fault may be intermittent.

  2. Ensure that the machine battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or external charger). Disconnect any external power and test for normal operation.

  3. Visually inspect the ECU A-095 harnesses and connectors for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires. Flex the harnesses while the machine is operating to reveal any intermittent shorts or breaks.

  4. Verify if the appropriate ECU A-095 software is currently installed and not corrupted.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Wiring Issues

If any harness damage or loose connections were found during the visual inspection, repair the wiring and ensure all connectors are fully seated.

  2. Software Flash

If the fault is active and no external power supply or wiring issues are found, attempt to reflash or reinstall the ECU A-095 software using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  3. ECU Replacement

If the ECU A-095 software cannot be reinstalled, or if the fault persists immediately after a successful reflash, the internal failure is fatal. You must remove and replace the Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095).

  4. Calibration

After installing a new ECU, use the EST to program the module to the specific machine and clear the fault codes.
