Case IH F-518144-14 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Calculated engine speed
Issue description
The code indicates an internal failure within the control module specifically related to its ability to calculate or process the engine speed signal.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
- Austoft 9900 Sugarcane Harvesters
Check the cause
Erase the Level 2/3 error from the fault code memory and operate the vehicle to see if the code returns
If the machine experiences full power loss, perform an emergency operation check (allows 30 seconds of operation to move the machine after commanding to low idle)
Contact Helpdesk for dealer-level diagnostics to verify if the ECU can be recovered via a software reflash or if the hardware is permanently bricked
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic tool to the machine's diagnostic port.
Clear and verify codes
Clear the inactive fault codes and run the engine to verify if F-518144-14 is active.
Check for software updates
Check the CNH dealer portal (eTIM) for any available software updates or service bulletins related to the engine speed calculation logic for the specific machine's ECU.
Reflash ECU
If a software update is available, reflash the Engine ECU.
Evaluate ECU replacement
If the code persists or no software update is available, the Engine ECU has suffered a fatal internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
Disconnect batteries
Disconnect the batteries before removing the ECU harness connectors.
Replace and program ECU
Replace the Engine ECU and use the EST tool to program the new module to the machine and input the correct injector trim codes.
