F-518147-09 - ECU

Case IH F-518147-09 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): ECU internal failure - Alarm task period error

Issue description

The internal processing timing or task monitoring within the control unit has failed or become corrupted. It can also be associated with an internal ECU failure related to fuel calibration.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Austoft 9900 Sugarcane Harvesters
  • Case IH MX / TG Series Tractors

Check the cause

  1. Verify Power Supply: Check if the ECU is correctly supplied with power and ensure there are no unexpected voltage drops reaching the module.

  2. Check for External Disturbances: Inspect for external issues that could cause voltage irregularities, such as a battery defect, alternator defect, wiring problems (too high resistance), or short circuits.

  3. Operational Note: If a full power loss is experienced due to this code, emergency re-starts are available to move the machine. This is only enabled after the engine has been commanded to low idle, allowing 30 seconds of operation without power loss before the engine is automatically reduced to low idle speed again.

Repair steps

  1. Inspect Voltage

Confirm the ECU is receiving proper voltage without drops.

  2. Reprogram the EDC

If no external disturbances or wiring issues are found and the error occurs repeatedly, you must reprogram (re-flash) the EDC/ECU.

  3. Replace the EDC

If the error remains active after reprogramming the module, the internal hardware is permanently failed, and you must replace the EDC.
