Case IH F-518147-31 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): ECU internal failure - WDA is not working correctly

Internal failure within the control module where the WDA (Watchdog Alarm/Actuator) becomes active due to internal communication errors (query/response failures) or a corrupted dataset/calibration error. This can also be a secondary code triggered by severe voltage drops.

   Check battery condition, alternator output, and wiring for high resistance (voltage drops)

   Determine if the code was thrown during a cold start, as heavy voltage drops during cranking can falsely trigger this error

   Look for other active Level 1 fault codes (e.g., 5V reference overvoltage/undervoltage codes like F-3597-03 or F-5006-31) that may have forced the WDA into an active state

   Verify if the ECU's dataset is corrupted or if a software update is available to resolve the calibration error

   Resolve Power Supply Issues

   If battery voltage is low, the alternator is failing, or there is high resistance in the main ECU power/ground wiring harness, repair these issues first. Clear the fault codes and cycle the key to see if the WDA error returns.

   Software Calibration

   If power and ground circuits are intact, connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and attempt a calibration of the ECU or another vehicle control.

   Contact Helpdesk

   Contact Helpdesk to obtain the correct dataset for the machine.

   Replace the ECU

   If the ECU will not accept the calibration, or if the internal hardware failure is permanent, replace the ECU unit.
