Case IH F-518164-31 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU Internal Failure - Injection quantity limited by Level 2 controller check
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an internal calculation, memory, or monitoring error (specifically during a Level 2 controller self-check) regarding the fuel injection quantity. As a safety and emissions precaution, the ECU forces the engine into a derated state, limiting the fuel injection quantity to prevent engine runaway or excessive emissions.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Austoft 9000 Series
- Austoft 9900 Series
- Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230, 7260)
- Magnum Tractors
- Steiger Tractors
Check the cause
Clear the fault code memory using a diagnostic tool
Ensure the engine is warm and turn off all auxiliary loads (AC, lamps, and additional auxiliaries)
Start the engine and let it run at standard low idle
Monitor the injection quantity via the diagnostic tool to see if the Level 2/3 error reappears
Check for special auxiliaries and adapt auxiliary strategies if necessary, as abnormal loads can trigger false internal calculation faults
Repair steps
Determine if the fault is a transient error (Scenario A).
If the error does NOT reappear after performing the diagnostic checks, do not replace the ECU. The fault was a transient error. Erasure of the fault code memory is sufficient to complete the repair.
Determine if the ECU has suffered a hard internal failure (Scenario B).
If the error DOES reappear after the diagnostic checks, you must replace the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
Flash and calibrate the new ECU.
After replacement, flash the new ECU with the correct machine software and calibrate it to the engine/immobilizer system using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
