Case IH F-518307-31 - ECU – Electronic Control Unit (ECU) / Vehicle Controller (A-095): CAN communication failure between the vehicle controller and the ECU controller - TSC1_VR message (Engine brake)

A loss of data link communication or a voltage/wiring issue preventing the modules from talking to each other, resulting in a failure to transmit or receive the TSC1_VR (Engine brake) CAN message.

   Check for active CAN faults: Verify if other related vehicle CAN bus faults exist. If they do, those must be resolved first, as a broader CAN failure will trigger this specific message loss.

   Inspect harnesses and connectors: Visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors (specifically at the ECU) for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires. Flex the harnesses while the machine is on to check for intermittent shorts or breaks.

   Check ECU A-095 supply voltage: Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the vehicle (VE) harness from the ECU A-095 at connector X-911. Turn the ignition switch ON. Use a multimeter to check for voltage on the vehicle (VE) harness side. Pin 1 (wire 6408B - Green), Pin 25 (wire 6408C - Green), and Pin 26 (wire 6408D - Green) to chassis ground should all read 12.0 V.

   Software verification: Check the ECU A-095 to ensure it has the appropriate software version. A software re-flash may be required if the physical circuits test good.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   If the diagnostic voltage checks fail, locate the short or break in the VE harness supplying connector X-911. Splice and repair the damaged wires or replace the affected harness section.

   Clean Terminals

   If voltage is correct but communication is still failing, use electrical contact cleaner on connector X-911 and the ECU A-095 pins. Reconnect securely.

   Re-flash or Replace ECU

   If the wiring, voltage, and CAN bus continuity are all within specification, attempt to have a dealer re-flash the ECU software. If the re-flash fails or the module is unresponsive, physically remove the ECU A-095 and install a replacement module.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive fault codes and verify the TSC1_VR message is restored.
