Case IH F-518645-09 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095): CAN communication failure between the vehicle controller and the ECU - BC2ECU2 message

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is not receiving the expected "BC2ECU2" (or BC2EDC2) CAN bus message from the main machine controller (Body Computer). FMI 09 indicates an "Abnormal update rate," "Received network error," or "Timeout," meaning the communication has dropped or timed out.

   Verify if the machine's battery has been connected to an external power supply (e.g., a jump box or external charger) which can disrupt CAN communication.

   Disconnect the vehicle harness from the ECU A-095 at connector X-911 and check for proper voltage on the vehicle harness side with the ignition ON.

   Check the presence, correct connection, functioning, and voltage supply of the Body Computer (Vehicle Controller) on the CAN network.

   Visually inspect harnesses and connectors for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires, and flex harnesses to reveal intermittent breaks.

   Disconnect External Power

   If an external power supply is connected to the tractor/machine, disconnect it immediately and test the system for normal operation.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   If the voltage check at connector X-911 fails, or if physical damage/corrosion is found during the harness inspection, repair the affected wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pins. Ensure all connectors are fully seated.

   Software Verification

   If the wiring is intact and the fault has not been resolved, verify that the appropriate software is present on the ECU A-095. Re-flash or reinstall the software if necessary.

   Module Replacement

   If the wiring, voltage, and software are all verified as good, the communication failure is likely due to an internal hardware failure. You will need to replace either the ECU A-095 or the Vehicle Controller (Body Computer) depending on which module is failing to transmit/receive.
