F-519745-17 - ECU

Case IH F-519745-17 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel rail pressure has dropped below the minimum limit.

Issue description

This indicates that the common rail fuel system is failing to maintain the minimum required fuel pressure to operate the engine properly, which can lead to stalling, poor performance, or a no-start condition.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Farmall series (40, 45, 50, 90C-120U)
  • Magnum series (215-335)
  • Steiger series (280-335)
  • Maxxum series (110, 115, 120)
  • MX/TG series
  • Austoft 9900
  • CH570

Check the cause

  1. Check for Leakages: Inspect the high-pressure fuel circuit for both external and internal leakages.

  2. Check High-Pressure Pump: Test the high-pressure fuel pump for overall efficiency and output.

  3. Check Injectors: Inspect the fuel injectors for tightness and perform an injector return flow test to check for excessive internal bypass.

  4. Check Fuel Metering Unit (MeUn): Verify if the metering unit is closing properly (commanded PWM = 100%).

  5. Check Electrical Wiring: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors to the Fuel Metering Unit for high resistance, shorts, or damage.

  6. Check Low-Pressure System: Ensure the low-pressure fuel tubes are clear, specifically verifying that the return line from the high-pressure pump to the fuel tank is free of restrictions.

  7. Check Zero Delivery Valve: Verify the zero delivery valve is working correctly.

  8. Verify Voltage: Check for a battery defect, alternator defect, or wiring issues. The documentation notes that this fault occurrence is possible during a cold start if voltage drops too low.

Repair steps

  1. Visual Inspection

Start by visually inspecting all fuel lines, the fuel rail, and the high-pressure pump for obvious signs of diesel leaks.

  2. Voltage Test

Test the battery and alternator. If the code only triggers during cold starts, replace the weak battery or repair the charging system.

  3. Low-Pressure Supply Check

Replace the fuel filters. Verify that the lift pump is supplying adequate low-pressure fuel to the high-pressure pump and that the return lines are not kinked or blocked.

  4. Metering Unit & Sensor Test

Back-probe the Fuel Metering Unit and the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor. Verify that the wiring harness has continuity to the ECU and no excessive resistance.

  5. Injector Leak-Off Test

If the supply is good and the metering unit is functioning, perform an injector leak-off (return flow) test. If one or more injectors are returning too much fuel to the tank, they are bleeding off the rail pressure and must be replaced.

  6. Component Replacement

If the injectors pass the leak-off test, the fault likely lies in a failing Fuel Metering Unit, a faulty Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (reading inaccurately low), or a worn-out High-Pressure Fuel Pump. Replace the faulty component.

  7. Clear and Verify

Clear the F-519745-17 code from the ECU using a diagnostic tool, bleed the fuel system if necessary, and test run the machine under load to ensure rail pressure meets commanded parameters.
