Case IH F-519849-31 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Torque Limitation active
Issue description
This is a secondary (consequential) fault code indicating the engine control system has intentionally reduced the engine's torque (power output/derate) to protect the engine or the emissions system from damage. It is a symptom of a primary root failure such as high engine coolant temperature, high exhaust gas temperature, turbocharger protection limits being exceeded, or a failure in the SCR/DEF aftertreatment system.

Check the cause
Read all fault codes using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or compatible scanner to find the primary active fault code logged at the same time.
Identify the root cause by looking for primary codes related to SCR/DEF system failures, overheating, or turbocharger protection.
Check live data by monitoring engine parameters (coolant temp, exhaust inlet/outlet temps, NOx PPM levels) with key ON (engine off) to identify erratic sensor data.

Address the Primary Fault
Follow the OEM service manual troubleshooting steps for the primary fault code found during your diagnostic check.
Clear the Fault Memory
Once the physical repair for the root cause is completed, use the diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes.
Reset Inducement Counters
If the torque limitation was caused by an emissions/DEF system fault, you must perform an 'Inducement Counter Reset' via the engine diagnostic software.
Perform a Healing Cycle
Run the engine under load (or put through a specific warm-up cycle where exhaust temps exceed 450°F) to verify the repair and command the ECU to lift the torque limitation.
