Case IH F-522816-12 - CGR – CGR: RTK Radio Failure
Issue description
Internal hardware failure or a total loss of communication with the RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) radio module attached to the GNSS receiver.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- STEIGER AFS Connect
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 180
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 200
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 220
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 240
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 250
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 280
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 310
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 340
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum 380
Check the cause
Inspect the CGR Serial Interface Cable connecting the RTK radio module to the main AFS Vector Pro receiver for bent pins, moisture ingress, or corrosion.
Ensure the CGR receiver is receiving adequate voltage (related codes 3509-00 or 3509-04 indicate supply voltage issues that could cause the radio to drop offline).
Check the RTK radio antenna (UHF or 900 MHz) and its coaxial connection to the radio module for physical damage.
Verify the CGR software version via the AFS Pro 1200 display (e.g., software part number 51631366 or 90336819) is up to date (v1.1.0.0 or higher) to prevent firmware mismatches.
Rule out simple loss of RTK subscription or signal blockage (which would throw codes like A-GNSS-107 or A-GNSS-112) to ensure this is a hardware failure.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent voltage spikes during component replacement.
Access the Receiver
Safely access the cab roof where the AFS Vector Pro (CGR) receiver is mounted.
Disconnect the Radio
Disconnect the RTK radio antenna and unplug the CGR serial interface cable from the RTK radio module.
Remove the Module
Unbolt/unclip the faulty RTK radio module from the main CGR receiver housing.
Install the Replacement
Mount the new RTK radio module (ensure you are installing the correct frequency band for your region/base station, e.g., 450-470 MHz or 900 MHz).
Reconnect
Plug in the serial interface cable and attach the RTK antenna.
System Configuration
Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. Navigate to the AFS Pro 1200 display. Go to Settings -> RTK Radio Setup and configure the new radio (e.g., "900 Mhz AFS VectorPro X-RTK Radio").
Validation
Verify that the fault code F-522816-12 has moved to an inactive state and clear it. Confirm that the receiver is pulling an RTK correction signal.
