F-522818-12 - CGR

Case IH F-522818-12 - CGR – CGR: Internal Receiver ADC Fault

Issue description

The ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) is a critical internal hardware component of the GPS/GNSS receiver that converts analog satellite radio signals into digital data for the processor. This code indicates a fatal internal hardware failure or a severe logic lockup within the receiver's circuitry.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • STEIGER AFS Connect
  • Optum AFS Connect
  • Patriot 50 Series

Check the cause

  1. Power Cycle: Completely power down the machine, turn off the battery disconnect switch, wait 5 minutes, and power it back on to see if the ADC fault clears.

  2. Check Power and Ground: Inspect the CGR serial interface cable (harness) at the cab roof. Ensure the receiver is receiving clean 12V power and has a solid ground, as voltage spikes or drops can cause temporary ADC failures.

  3. Software Verification: Check the CGR software version via the AFS Pro 1200 display. Flash the receiver to the latest firmware if an update is available, as patches often resolve false internal fault flags.

  4. Hardware Condemnation: If the wiring is sound, the software is up to date, and the code remains active, the internal Analog-to-Digital Converter chip has permanently failed and the receiver must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and engage the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Access the Receiver

Safely access the cab roof where the AFS Vector Pro receiver is mounted.

  3. Disconnect Harness

Unplug the CGR serial interface cable from the back of the receiver.

  4. Remove the Receiver

Unlatch or unbolt the receiver from the roof mounting bracket (depending on the specific bracket adapter used).

  5. Install New Unit

Mount the replacement AFS Vector Pro receiver onto the bracket and secure it.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the serial interface cable into the new receiver.

  7. Configuration

Power on the machine. Access the AFS Pro 1200 display to configure the new receiver. You will need to input any necessary unlock codes (e.g., for RTK, Medium, or Base accuracy) that were purchased for the farm's operation, as these are tied to the receiver's serial number.

  8. Calibration

Verify that the receiver is tracking satellites and communicating with the P&CM (Processing & Connectivity Module) and Nav controller without throwing the F-522818-12 code.
