F-523785-16 - CGR

Case IH F-523785-16 - CGR – CGR: Internal Receiver Temperature

Issue description

The internal components of the GPS/GNSS receiver on the roof of the cab are overheating, indicating the temperature is above the normal operating range.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • STEIGER AFS Connect
  • Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Tractors (Models 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CGR receiver mounted on the cab roof for heavy dust, mud, bird droppings, or debris that could act as an insulator.

  2. Assess environmental conditions, such as extreme direct sunlight and high ambient heat, which may cause the receiver to temporarily exceed its thermal threshold.

  3. Inspect the CGR Serial Interface Cable/Harness for shorts or corrosion, which can cause excessive power draw and internal overheating.

  4. Check the software version of the CGR via the AFS Pro 1200 or Pro 700 display to ensure it is not running outdated firmware (e.g., v1.0.0.0 or v1.1.0.0) causing erroneous temperature reporting.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Receiver

Thoroughly clean the exterior of the GNSS receiver dome to ensure proper heat dissipation.

  2. Cool Down Cycle

Park the tractor in the shade or a shop environment, cycle the key off, and allow the receiver to cool completely. Turn the key back on to see if the F-523785-16 code changes from 'Active' to 'Inactive'.

  3. Update Firmware

If the code persists or triggers prematurely, have a dealer flash the CGR module to the latest software version using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  4. Check Wiring

Disconnect the CGR Serial Interface Harness and check for melted pins or resistance issues. Replace the harness if damaged.

  5. Replace the Receiver

If the software is up to date, the harness is good, and the unit continues to log internal temperature faults, the internal thermal mitigation or circuitry of the CGR has failed. The receiver must be replaced.
