Case IH F-5246-00 - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Aftertreatment SCR Operator Inducement Severity - Most Severe Level
Issue description
The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has entered a Level 3 inducement (creep mode), which typically limits the vehicle speed to 5 mph and severely derates engine power. This is triggered by a tampering fault or a severe, unresolved SCR system malfunction.

Check the cause
Read all active codes for accompanying faults related to DEF quality, DEF level, or NOx sensors (e.g., SPN 3364, 1761, 3521, 3528, 3529, 3530).
Inspect DEF fluid in the tank for degraded, contaminated, or diluted fluid.
Inspect the DEF pump and tank module for poor pressure or leaks, specifically checking for a cracked DEF suction tube near the top of the tank unit.
Check wiring harnesses and connectors for the DEF quality sensor, NOx sensors, and DEF pump for rodent damage, short circuits, or disconnected plugs.
Inspect the DEF pre-filter for blockages or contaminants at the DEF pump inlet tube fitting.
Repair steps
Resolve the Root Cause
Repair or replace the failed component identified in your diagnostic checks (e.g., replace a faulty NOx sensor, swap a cracked DEF tank suction unit, or replace a failed DEF dosing pump).
Address DEF Fluid
If fluid contamination is suspected, drain the DEF tank completely and refill it with fresh, certified Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
Replace Filters
If replacing the DEF pump, also replace the DEF pre-filter to ensure no contaminants enter the new pump.
Perform a Forced Regeneration
Use a diagnostic service tool (like Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to perform a forced regen. This resets the DPF and SCR status.
Reset the Inducement Lock
Clear all active and inactive fault codes. If the system has been in Level 3 inducement, the override counter may be locked. You must use the diagnostic tool's UDS service function to reset the inducement lock and restore the override option.
Verify Repair
Cycle the key and confirm the engine exits the 5 mph creep mode / inducement mode.
