Case IH F-5310-18 - ECU – ECU: Fault path for HC monitoring

This code indicates an issue with the Hydrocarbon (HC) monitoring system within the engine's exhaust aftertreatment system. The system is failing to complete its monitoring path, typically because the exhaust system is not reaching the required temperatures to burn off hydrocarbons (via the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst / DOC) or because of an anomaly in the ambient temperature readings preventing the monitoring cycle from initiating.

   Check the ambient temperature sensor to ensure it is not being artificially heated or cooled (e.g., sudden sunshine after a cold night or a warm air stream from an external source).

   Check for related active injection system or exhaust temperature sensor codes (e.g., 4765, 4766). If present, clean the upstream and downstream temperature sensors.

   Using a diagnostic tool, monitor the temperature before and after the DOC during post-injection. If the temperature does not increase, investigate the exhaust line for leaks or check the HC doser.

   Thermal Cycle / Load Test

   Warm up engine and exhaust by driving under load. Operate the tractor under a heavy working load to naturally raise the exhaust gas temperatures to the threshold required for the HC monitoring system to run its checks.

   Service Regeneration

   If driving under load does not clear the fault, connect your diagnostic tool and perform a forced Service Regeneration.

   Sensor Cleaning/Replacement

   If the regeneration fails to reach the target temperature, remove and clean the exhaust temperature sensors (upstream and downstream of the DOC).

   Inspect HC Doser

   If temperatures still do not rise during the regeneration's post-injection phase, inspect the HC doser (7th injector) for blockages and verify the exhaust pipe has no leaks. Replace the doser or sensors if they fail bench testing.
