Case IH F-5313-02 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Rail pressure plausibility

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) continuously monitors the fuel pressure in the common rail. This fault is triggered when the ECU detects an implausible reading or condition regarding the fuel rail pressure. This typically means the actual rail pressure does not match the expected parameters requested by the ECU, often due to a faulty sensor reading, a leak in the high-pressure system, or the pressure relief valve opening unexpectedly.

   Check for accompanying fault codes indicating low rail pressure, pressure shock requests, or pressure relief valve (PRV) open conditions

   Verify the fuel rail pressure sensor's live data readings using a diagnostic tool

   Inspect the fuel rail pressure sensor's wiring harness and connectors for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery voltage (B+)

   Inspect the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) for premature leaking that prevents the rail from building correct pressure

   Ensure there are no restrictions in the low-pressure fuel supply and check the fuel metering unit for proper operation

   Wiring Repair

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a short or break in the wiring harness between the ECU and the rail pressure sensor, repair or replace the damaged wiring.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor is providing erratic or out-of-range data, relieve the fuel system pressure, remove the old fuel rail pressure sensor, and install a new OEM sensor.

   Relief Valve Replacement

   If the rail pressure is genuinely low because the pressure relief valve is leaking or stuck open, replace the PRV. Note: Service documentation explicitly warns against simply blocking off the relief valve, as it removes a critical built-in safeguard that prevents injector damage.

   System Reset

   After replacing the faulty component, clear the fault codes from the ECU and test-run the machine under load to ensure rail pressure reaches the expected range without triggering the F-5313-02 code.
