Case IH F-5357-14 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Number of desired injections exceeds threshold

The ECU detects a discrepancy between the requested number of fuel injections and the actual number of fuel injections fired. This is typically caused by a software logic error where the time for injection calculation is too short.

   Verify the machine's battery power supply has not been improperly connected to an external power supply (like a jump box), which can cause erratic ECU behavior.

   Start the engine and run it at 2000 RPM while checking the battery voltage on the instrument cluster to ensure the alternator is providing clean, stable voltage to the ECU.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the current software version installed on the Engine ECU.

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the CNH diagnostic service tool to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Check software version

   Check the Engine Control Unit (ECU) software version against the latest available OEM software.

   Re-flash ECU

   If the software is outdated or experiencing calculation errors, re-flash the ECU with the appropriate, updated software.

   Verify repair

   Clear the fault codes, start the engine, and operate the machine to verify the fault does not return.

   Replace ECU

   If the ECU cannot be successfully re-flashed, or if the internal memory has failed preventing the update, the ECU must be physically replaced and programmed.
