Case IH F-5571-00 - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): High Pressure Common Rail Fuel Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) Forced to Open

The Engine Control Module has detected that the mechanical pressure relief valve on the fuel rail was forced to open. This happens when the fuel pressure in the common rail exceeds a critical safety limit, or if the valve itself has weakened and is opening at a pressure lower than expected.

   Check fuel filters to ensure they are not restricted or heavily contaminated

   Inspect the fuel rail pressure sensor and its wiring harness connections for shorts, corrosion, or open circuits (a faulty sensor reading artificially low can cause over-pressurization)

   Check the fuel metering unit (M-PROP) on the high-pressure pump and its wiring harness (if stuck open or electrically faulted, it causes a runaway pressure condition)

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the PRV opening count (if the valve has popped multiple times, its internal spring is likely weakened and requires replacement)

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the engine and allow sufficient time for the high-pressure fuel system to depressurize completely before opening any lines.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the fuel rail and the area around the pressure relief valve. Common rail systems are highly sensitive to microscopic contamination.

   Remove the Valve

   Disconnect the fuel return line from the PRV. Use a wrench to unthread and remove the old pressure relief valve from the fuel rail.

   Install the New Valve

   Thread the new PRV into the fuel rail and torque it to the exact OEM specification found in your specific engine's service manual.

   Reconnect Lines

   Reattach the fuel return line.

   Reset the ECU Counter

   You must connect the Case IH EST diagnostic tool and run the routine control service to reset the 'PRV number of openings' counter in the ECU. If this is not reset, the ECU may continue to limit engine power.

   Prime and Test

   Prime the fuel system, start the engine, and check for leaks around the rail. Clear the inactive fault codes.
