F-5840-15 - ECU

Case IH F-5840-15 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): SCR Inducement: Warning, triggered by DEF/AdBlue dosing interruption fault.

Issue description

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system has detected a failure or interruption in the delivery of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) into the exhaust stream. When this interruption occurs, the system triggers an emissions inducement warning, which will progressively force the machine into a derate (torque reduction) or Level 3 "creep mode" if the dosing issue is not corrected.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Steiger
  • Farmall
  • Vestrum
  • Luxxum
  • Axial-Flow 5130
  • Axial-Flow 6130
  • Axial-Flow 7130
  • Axial-Flow 7230
  • Axial-Flow 9230
  • Austoft 9900
  • Patriot 4430

Check the cause

  1. Check the DEF tank vent for clogs (a plugged vent creates a vacuum that starves the pump)

  2. Monitor DEF pressure using diagnostic software (pressure dropping rapidly after startup indicates an internal pump leak)

  3. Inspect the DEF doser injector nozzle for severe DEF crystallization build-up

  4. Check DEF lines for kinks or leaks, and verify the main DEF dosing module filter is not clogged (replace every 3,600 hours)

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure & Disconnect

Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and allow the SCR system to purge and depressurize.

  2. Address Venting/Clogs

If the tank vent was found to be plugged during diagnostics, clean or replace the vent assembly. If the injector is clogged with crystallized DEF, use a specialized DEF module cleaning kit (such as the Cojali cleaning kit) to clean the injector without full disassembly, or replace the injector entirely.

  3. Remove the Dosing Module

If the pump has an internal leak, locate the DEF dosing module. Disconnect the DEF fluid lines and the electrical wiring harnesses. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install the New Module

Mount the replacement Bosch Denoxtronic supply module, reconnect the fluid lines, and plug in the electrical connectors.

  5. Programming

The new DEF dosing module must be programmed to the vehicle's ECU using dealer diagnostic software after replacement. It is not a simple plug-and-play repair.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the F-5840-15 fault code and run the machine to verify that DEF pressure remains stable and the inducement warning does not return.
