Case IH F-5841-16 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): SCR Inducement: Level 1 (Torque reduction), triggered by Reagent quality fault

This is an informational inducement code indicating that the engine control system has detected the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF/AdBlue) quality is below the required threshold (typically 32.5% urea concentration) or that the DEF quality sensor is malfunctioning. The system triggers a Level 1 SCR Inducement, which actively restricts engine torque (power reduction).

   Check for root cause codes (e.g., 5841-0, 5841-15, or NOx sensor codes) generated at the same time and diagnose those first, as 5841-16 is merely the resulting torque derate

   Inspect the DEF tank for signs of contamination such as water dilution, diesel fuel, or dirt

   Address Fluid Issues

   If the DEF is degraded, diluted, or contaminated, completely drain and flush the DEF tank.

   Remove and replace the DEF supply pump filter cartridge to ensure no contaminated fluid remains in the dosing system.

   Fill the tank with fresh, known-good DEF/AdBlue.

   Replace Sensor (If Applicable)

   If the fluid is perfectly fine but the system still reads poor quality, the DEF quality sensor has likely drifted or failed. Replace the DEF tank header unit (which houses the integrated quality sensor).
