Case IH F-628-14 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ECM): ECU internal failure - write access to non volatile memory failed for at least one block.
Issue description
The control module's internal non-volatile memory (EEPROM or Flash memory) has suffered a write error. The module is physically unable to save or overwrite data to at least one memory block. This can prevent the module from storing operational parameters, after-run data, or new fault codes, and is often caused by cutting battery power before the module has completed its shutdown/after-run sequence.

Check the cause
Check Operator Habits: Verify that the operator is not using the battery disconnect switch to shut down the machine while the engine is running or immediately after key-off. The ECU requires a timed after-run duration to write data.
Inspect Power and Ground: Check the battery voltage, alternator output, and the main wiring harness to the ECU. Look for high resistance, loose grounds, or corroded pins.
Test the Main Relay: A sticky or failing main power relay can cause intermittent voltage drops during the ECU's memory-write phase.
Clear the Memory: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and attempt to delete the stored faults. If the error was sporadic, clearing the memory and allowing a proper key-off cycle may resolve it.

Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECU to the engine block and remove the faulty module.
