Case IH F-630-19 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - EEPROM read error

The EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) is a memory chip inside the control unit that stores critical operating data and parameters. This code indicates that the module is unable to read the data stored in this memory sector, which is typically caused by data corruption or a physical hardware failure within the chip itself.

   Verify battery voltage and inspect the main power and ground harness connections to the ECU. Severe voltage drops or poor grounds can sometimes cause temporary memory read/write errors.

   Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool and perform a full key cycle (power down the machine, wait, and restart) to determine if the EEPROM read error was a temporary glitch or an active, hard fault.

   Check if there is a software update available. Attempting to reflash the ECU with the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) may resolve the issue if the memory is simply corrupted rather than physically damaged.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts or voltage spikes during removal.

   Locate ECU

   Locate the Engine Control Unit (ECU) mounted on the engine block or firewall.

   Carefully release the locking levers and disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the ECU.
