Case IH F-651-03 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Short circuit error of injector in cylinder 1
Issue description
Voltage Above Normal / Shorted to high source. The system has detected a short circuit on the high-voltage side to ground, or a short circuit on the low side to the battery, within the wiring or the internal coil of the fuel injector for cylinder number 1.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Axial-Flow 130/140/150 Series (4130, 5130, 6130, 7130, 5140, 6140, 7140, 7150)
- Axial-Flow 240/250 Series (7240, 7250, 8240, 8250, 9240, 9250)
- Puma Series (130 through 225)
- Magnum Series (235-340)
- Steiger Series (350-600)
- Maxxum Series (110, 120, 130, 135)
- Patriot 3230, 3320, 3330
- Austoft 9900, A8000, A8800
Check the cause
Check for Bank Faults: Verify if fault code 3210 (DTC 7116) - 'Injection bank 1 short circuit failure' is present. If so, resolve the bank fault first.
Visually inspect the engine wiring harness from the ECU to the cylinder 1 injector for chafing, melting, or exposed wires.
If the machine experiences a full power loss, utilize the emergency re-start feature (enabled after commanding low idle) to gain 30 seconds of operation to move the machine safely.
Repair steps
Isolate the Circuit
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery. Disconnect the wiring harness connector at the cylinder 1 fuel injector.
Test the Harness
Using a multimeter, test the injector harness pins for continuity to ground and for shorts to battery voltage. If a short circuit is indicated in the wiring, repair the damaged section of the wire harness or replace the harness entirely.
Test the Injector Coil
Measure the internal resistance of the cylinder 1 injector coil. If the resistance is out of specification (indicating an internal short), the injector is defective and must be replaced.
Check ECU Outputs
If both the wiring harness and the injector test good, the defect may be an internal ECU problem (a burnt injector driver). Check the injection signals coming directly from the ECU pins. If the signal is dead or shorted internally, the Engine ECU must be replaced.
Reassembly and Clearing
Reconnect all components, clear the inactive fault codes using the diagnostic monitor or service tool, and test run the engine to ensure the code does not return.
