Case IH F-652-05 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Open load error of injector in cylinder 2

The electrical current to the cylinder 2 fuel injector is less than expected. The system has detected an open circuit, high resistance, or a broken wire in the injector's electrical circuit, which prevents the injector from firing and causes the engine to misfire or run rough.

   Verify that the tractor battery has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box), as voltage irregularities can trigger false codes. Disconnect if present and retest.

   Check the engine wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the cylinder 2 injector for broken wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

   Test the cylinder 2 injector solenoid coil with a multimeter to check if the internal coil has failed (open circuit).

   Preparation

   Clean the area around the cylinder 2 injector to prevent debris from entering the engine.

   Remove Fuel Lines

   Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line connected to the cylinder 2 injector. Note: OEM guidelines state that if an injector is replaced, the high-pressure fuel line connector must also be replaced.

   Remove the Injector

   Remove the fuel injector hold-down Allen head screw and the hold-down clamp. Pull the fuel injector from the cylinder head. Ensure the old copper sealing ring and O-ring/seal sleeve are removed with it.

   Clean the Bore

   Thoroughly clean the injector bore in the cylinder head.

   Install New Seals

   Install a new O-ring and a new copper sealing ring onto the new fuel injector.

   Install the Injector

   Insert the new injector into the bore. Install the hold-down clamp and screw the flange bolts on manually to position the flange correctly before torquing to specification.

   Reassemble

   Install the new high-pressure fuel line.

   ECU Programming

   Program the new injector's IMA code (the QR code/calibration string stamped on the injector) into the Engine ECU using a Case IH diagnostic tool. If this is not done, the ECU will not deliver the correct fuel flow.
