F-6819-31 - ECU

Case IH F-6819-31 - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine Control Unit (ECU): Inducement system is locked due to 3 detections in 40 hours (repeat offender)

Issue description

Software-enforced emissions lock-out related to the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) / Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system. The system enters a severe inducement locked state, limiting engine torque/power or restricting engine restarts, because a severe emissions fault was detected more than 3 times within a 40-hour operating window.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Farmall Series (40, 45, 50, 120A)
  • Puma Series
  • Steiger AFS Connect
  • Machines equipped with F4DFE, F2CFE (Cursor 9), and ISM engines

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check for other active or inactive fault codes related to the urea/DEF system (e.g., NOx sensor implausibility, DEF quality sensor timeouts, CAN network errors)

  2. Inspect wiring and connectors to the ECU and DEF control modules to verify they are properly connected, undamaged, and connector locks are not broken

  3. Use the EST to check the CAN network for communication errors between the ECU and vehicle control modules

Repair steps

  1. Repair the Root Cause

Follow the appropriate diagnostic procedure to resolve the underlying SCR/DEF system fault (e.g., replace a faulty NOx sensor, repair damaged wiring, or drain and refill contaminated DEF).

  2. Connect the EST

Once the physical repair is complete, connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine.

  3. Navigate to Configuration

Open the configuration menu (icon) within the EST software.

  4. Select the Reset Routine

Select the menu option for 'Engine Restart Counter Reset / Unlock Inducement' (Routine Id. $029F).

  5. Configure

    Click 'CONFIGURE SELECTED ITEM'.

  6. Execute Reset

Click the button labeled 'RESET ENGINE RESTART COUNTER / UNLOCK INDUCEMENT' to clear the severe deactivation counter.

  7. Clear Codes and Verify

Clear all remaining fault codes, cycle the ignition key, and verify that the inducement lock is removed and full engine power is restored. If the issue persists, the ECU may require a software re-flash.
