Case IH F-7820-31 - CGR – CGR: Internal GNSS Antenna
Issue description
The control module has detected a hardware failure, communication loss, or circuit fault specifically with the internal antenna element located inside the GNSS receiver dome, resulting in a loss of guidance and positioning data.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- STEIGER AFS Connect
- Case IH AFS Connect Magnum Series 180, 200, 220, 240, 250, 280, 310, 340, and 380
Check the cause
Power Cycle & Harness Check: Verify the CGR is receiving proper voltage. Unplug the receiver from the roof harness, wait 20 seconds, and plug it back in. Inspect the serial interface cable and pins for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or damage.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for other CGR hardware codes that might indicate a total receiver failure, such as 841-12 (Receiver Hardware Failure) or 516354-16 (Internal Voltage Failure).
Software Verification: Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Check the current software version of the CGR. Update to the latest version (e.g., v1.1.0.0, v2.1.0.0 or higher) to rule out false hardware flags before replacing the unit.
Repair steps
Power down
Power down the machine and turn off the battery isolator switch.
Locate receiver
Access the cab roof and locate the AFS Vector Pro (CGR) receiver.
Disconnect cable
Disconnect the CGR serial interface cable from the back of the receiver.
Remove receiver
Unlatch or unbolt the receiver from the roof mounting bracket and remove the faulty unit.
Install replacement
Install the replacement CGR receiver onto the bracket and securely reconnect the interface cable.
Connect EST
Power up the machine and connect the CNH EST laptop.
Flash firmware
Select the CGR GNSS controller in the EST and put it into programming mode. Click "Download" to flash the correct and latest firmware to the new receiver.
Perform calibrations
Perform mandatory guidance calibrations via the display/EST, including the Roll Calibration, Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration, and Steering Valve Calibration.
