Case IH F-GNSS-100 - Display – Guidance and GNSS system: No Communication with GNSS Receiver

Issue description

This fault indicates that GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver messages are not present on the CAN Bus. The system display is unable to communicate with the GPS/GNSS receiver mounted on the machine.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle Power: Turn the machine off, wait, and cycle the power to see if the receiver re-establishes communication.

  2. Check Connections: Inspect the GNSS receiver connections on the roof of the cab. Look for loose connectors, corrosion, or damaged pins on the CAN Bus harness.

  3. Verify Power/Fuses: Check the vehicle fuses to ensure the receiver is actually receiving power.

  4. Check LED Status: If using a Trimble-manufactured receiver (like the AFS 372), check the LED indicator light on the receiver to verify if it is powering on and tracking satellites.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor/machine and remove the key to ensure the CAN bus is asleep.

  2. Inspect the Harness

    Climb to the cab roof and disconnect the main cable from the GNSS receiver (Port A/Port B). Inspect the DB9 or circular connectors for moisture or pushed-back pins.

  3. Test for Voltage

    Using a multimeter, verify that the receiver is getting standard operating voltage and solid ground from the machine's harness.

  4. Check CAN Continuity

    Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the receiver harness and the Nav Controller/Display harness for continuity or shorts to ground.

  5. Clear BB RAM / Factory Reset

    If the receiver has power but is locked up, a technician may need to connect it to a laptop using the AgRemote utility or FlashLoader to clear the BB Ram and restore factory defaults.

  6. Replace the Receiver

    If power, ground, and CAN lines are intact but the receiver remains unresponsive or fails to broadcast messages to the CAN bus, the GNSS receiver has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

  7. Reconfigure

    After installing a new receiver, ensure the "Self Config Addr" is set to Yes, and configure the CAN A and CAN B settings via the display so it communicates properly with the tractor.
