F1A

Case IH F1A – Transmission Controller (Transmission/EDC): Clutch A Solenoid Open Circuit Or Short To Ground

Issue description

This fault indicates a critical electrical failure in the circuit controlling the Clutch A solenoid. The controller has detected that the circuit is either physically broken (open circuit) or that the wiring/solenoid has shorted directly to the chassis ground. When this code is active, the affected clutch is disabled to prevent transmission damage.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • Case IH MXM Series (MXM 120, 130, 140, 155, 175, 190)
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the transmission wiring harness leading to the Clutch A solenoid for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points that could cause a short to ground

  2. Disconnect the Clutch A solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or poor terminal tension

  3. Measure the resistance across the Clutch A solenoid coil to check for an open circuit (infinite resistance) or a dead short

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, place shift levers in neutral, block the front and rear wheels, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Replacement

Locate the Clutch A solenoid on the transmission control valve block. Disconnect the wiring plug, remove the retaining hardware, and extract the faulty solenoid. Install the new solenoid valve and reconnect the harness.

  3. Transmission Calibration

Perform a mandatory H1 Clutch and Synchroniser Calibration. Hold the High and Low range buttons and start the engine. Release the buttons when 'CAL' appears on the transmission display. Set the engine speed to 1200 RPM. Follow the prompts to calibrate the clutches ('SOC' will appear). The process is complete when 'END' is displayed on the screen.
