Case IH F1B – Transmission Controller (Transmission/EDC): Clutch B Solenoid Open Circuit Or Short To Ground

The controller has detected an electrical anomaly in the circuit operating the Clutch B transmission solenoid. The system is seeing either a complete break in the electrical path (open circuit) or the voltage is taking an unintended path directly to the chassis/ground (short to ground). When this code is active, the transmission controller will typically disable the affected clutch.

   Solenoid Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the Clutch B solenoid. Measure the resistance across the solenoid pins. The resistance should be approximately 10 Ohms. If it is out of specification, the solenoid is internally faulty.

   Short to Ground Test: Disconnect the transmission controller harness. Check for continuity between the Clutch B signal wire (pin) and a good chassis ground. If continuity exists, the wire is shorted to ground and the harness must be repaired.

   Open Circuit Test: Check for continuity from the transmission controller connector to the solenoid connector to ensure the wire is not broken.

   Inspect Connections

   Locate the Clutch B solenoid on the transmission valve block. Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

   Repair or Replace

   Based on your diagnostic checks, either repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the Clutch B solenoid if it failed the 10-Ohm resistance test.

   Prepare for Calibration

   Whenever a PWM solenoid valve is replaced, a mechanical repair is made, or the controller memory is reset (often triggering an F24, E24, or 24 code), the transmission clutches must be recalibrated.

   Transmission Calibration Procedure

   Ensure the tractor is on level ground, clear of obstacles. Block the front and rear wheels. Place all shift levers in the neutral position. Press and hold the High and Low range buttons simultaneously, then start the engine. Wait for 'CAL' to appear on the transmission display, then release the High and Low range buttons. Set the engine speed to 1200 ERPM (± 100 RPM). Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle through and calibrate the clutch packs.
