Case IH F2B – Transmission Controller (TCU): Clutch B Solenoid Over Voltage
Issue description
The transmission control system has detected an abnormally high voltage (or a short circuit to a +12V power source) on the electrical circuit responsible for the Clutch B solenoid. When this code is triggered, the system typically defaults to a "Disabled" status for that specific clutch pack to prevent mechanical damage or erratic shifting.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MXM
- MXM 120
- MXM 130
- MXM 140
- MXM 155
- MXM 175
- MXM 190
Check the cause
Check the tractor's battery voltage and charging system to ensure it is within normal operating limits, as voltage spikes or low voltage can cause erratic solenoid codes.
Inspect the transmission wiring harness leading to the transmission valve body for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires that could be causing a short circuit to a +12V source.
Disconnect the Clutch B solenoid and check the electrical connector for water ingress, dirt, or corrosion.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the Clutch B solenoid coil. A reading of zero or an open circuit indicates an internal short or failure in the coil itself. Compare the reading to a known good solenoid on the valve body (such as Clutch A or C).
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all equipment to the ground, place shift levers in neutral, block the wheels, and disconnect the battery.
Relieve Pressure
Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the transmission system.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission control valve body (PMV block) where the clutch solenoids are mounted.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical harness from the Clutch B solenoid. Unbolt and remove the faulty solenoid valve. (Note: In some cases, if the mechanical valve is fine, only the electrical coil needs to be swapped).
Installation
Clean the mounting surface to prevent contamination. Install the new solenoid valve or coil and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. You must perform a transmission calibration procedure (accessed via the tractor's H-Menu) so the transmission controller can learn the engagement points and pressures for the new Clutch B solenoid.
