F2E

Case IH F2E – Transmission Controller: Clutch E Solenoid Over Voltage

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the voltage on the circuit for the "Clutch E" transmission solenoid is higher than the expected operating range. The controller detects a short circuit to a power source (such as a 12V or 5V reference line) or an internal failure within the solenoid itself. When this code is triggered, the transmission is disabled to prevent mechanical damage. The operator must depress the clutch pedal to attempt to re-enable the transmission.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • Case IH MXM 120
  • Case IH MXM 130
  • Case IH MXM 140
  • Case IH MXM 155
  • Case IH MXM 175
  • Case IH MXM 190
  • Case IH Maxxum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the tractor's alternator is not overcharging the battery, which can cause system-wide over-voltage codes

  2. Trace the wiring from the Transmission Controller to the Clutch E solenoid. Look for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires that could be shorting the solenoid's signal wire to a 12V battery positive or 5V reference wire

  3. Disconnect the plug at the Clutch E solenoid and inspect for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge circuits

  4. Use a multimeter to test the internal resistance of the Clutch E solenoid. If it is shorted internally, the solenoid must be replaced

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on level ground, lower all equipment, place all shift levers in neutral, block the front and rear wheels, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing and identify the specific PWM solenoid for Clutch E.

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining bolts/clips holding the solenoid in the valve block and carefully pull the solenoid out.

  4. Install the New Solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert it into the valve block and torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Transmission Calibration (Mandatory)

Start the engine and warm the transmission oil (oil temperature must be above 10°C / U19 fault will show if too cold). Enter the H-Menu / Calibration mode (typically by holding the High and Low range buttons while starting the engine until "CAL" appears). Set the engine speed to 1200 RPM. Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle through and calibrate the clutches (Clutch A through E).
