Case IH F38 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / CFPS: Disabled Range Selected By The Operator
Issue description
Triggered when the operator attempts to shift into or select a transmission range that is currently locked out, disabled in the tractor's software configuration, or not permitted under the current operating conditions.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- MXM
- MXM 120
- MXM 130
- MXM 135
- MXM 140
- MXM 150
- MXM 155
- MXM 165

- MXM 180
- MXM 190
Check the cause
Verify that the operator is not mistakenly trying to select a range that is intentionally restricted for the specific implement or field condition.
Check for accompanying transmission codes (such as F40-F45 for synchronizer potentiometers or F47/F48 for clutch disconnect switches) that might force the controller to disable a range as a safety precaution.
Review the tractor's H-Menu (Transmission Service Menu) configuration to check which ranges are currently enabled or disabled in the software.
Repair steps
Access the Transmission Service Menu (H-Menu)
Enter the H-Menu on the tractor's digital display to view the current transmission configuration.
Verify Range Status
Navigate to the specific range the operator was trying to select. Check if the software has it flagged as 'Disabled'.
Reconfigure if Necessary
If the range is supposed to be available for the tractor's current setup, change the configuration from 'Disabled' to 'Enabled' and save the settings.
Perform a Transmission Calibration
If the settings are correct but the code persists, perform a full transmission and clutch calibration (Menu H1 - Clutch and Synchroniser Calibration). Ensure the transmission oil is at operating temperature, place shift levers in neutral, apply the parking brake, and set engine speed to 1200 RPM as prompted by the 'CAL' display.
Module Replacement
If the CFPS controller fails to retain its non-volatile memory (often accompanied by an H8 reset code) or fails calibration repeatedly, the CFPS electronic module itself may be faulty and require replacement.
Parts you might need
(1)CFPS Full Power Shift Transmission Unit (Electronic Module)
47130670Specific to the CFPS 40 KPH software revision. You must match the exact CFPS module to the tractor's factory speed rating.
