Issue description

This fault code indicates that the voltage signal returning from the Low/High Range Synchronizer Potentiometer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold (under voltage). The potentiometer is responsible for monitoring the physical position of the synchronizer that shifts the transmission between low and high ranges. When the voltage is too low, the controller cannot determine the synchronizer's position, which typically disables shifting or limits transmission functionality.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the low/high range synchronizer potentiometer connector (X-666) and the transmission CCU connector (X-097 or C101-25) to ensure they are fully seated, undamaged, and free of corrosion.

  2. Disconnect the potentiometer connector (X-666), turn the ignition ON, and measure voltage at the harness side to verify the CCU is supplying the required 5-volt reference.

  3. Perform a harness continuity test between the potentiometer and the CCU to check for an open circuit or a short to ground.

  4. Inspect the mechanical linkage or internal spring that interfaces with the potentiometer to ensure it is not broken or jammed.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the Low/High Range Synchronizer Potentiometer on the side of the transmission housing. (Note: On some models, accessing transmission range sensors may require removing a rear wheel or cab panels for clearance).

  3. Removal

    Disconnect the electrical harness from the potentiometer. Remove the retaining bolts/screws securing the sensor to the transmission housing.

  4. Installation

    Install the new potentiometer. Crucial step: Ensure the internal spring and tang of the potentiometer correctly engage with the synchronizer shift rail/linkage inside the transmission housing.

  5. Secure and Reconnect

    Tighten the mounting hardware to OEM torque specs and plug the electrical connector back in. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibration

    You must perform a transmission calibration procedure using the tractor's H-Menu (via the digital instrument cluster) or an electronic diagnostic tool. This teaches the CCU the new minimum and maximum voltage values for the low and high physical limits of the synchronizer.

  7. Clear Codes

    Clear the F43 fault code from the CCU memory and test drive the tractor to ensure smooth shifting between low and high ranges.
