Case IH F52 – Transmission Controller / Processor: Transmission Oil Temperature Sender Short To Ground

The transmission controller is detecting a short circuit to ground on the transmission oil temperature sensor circuit. When this fault is active, the system defaults to assuming the transmission oil is hot, which will result in sluggish shifting and a higher-than-normal clutch pedal position if the oil is actually cold.

   Isolate the Circuit: Disconnect the transmission processor connectors (C100 & C101) and specifically disconnect pin C100-18.

   Test the Wiring: Test the wiring circuit from the terminal of the temperature sender (designated in wiring diagrams as component C023) to the chassis for an open or short circuit.

   Test the Sensor: With the sender installed, check for a short to earth.

   Evaluate: If the wiring harness checks out OK (no shorts to the chassis/ground found in the loom), the fault is internal to the temperature sender.

   Trace the Harness

   Follow the wiring harness from the transmission controller to the transmission oil temperature sender (C023).

   Repair Wiring

   If a rub-through or pinched wire is found shorting against the tractor chassis, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring is intact, the temperature sender has failed internally and is shorting to ground. Remove the old transmission oil temperature sender and install a new one.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Reconnect all processor connectors. Clear the transmission error codes and test the tractor from a cold start to ensure shifting is no longer sluggish.
