Case IH F560 – Transmission Controller (TCU) or Armrest Controller / Multi-Function Handle (MFH) module: Upshift Switch Input Voltage Low

Issue description

The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the upshift switch circuit that is below the normal operating parameters. This typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a mechanical failure of the switch contacts inside the shift lever. When this code is active, the upshift switch will not function, and the operator will be unable to select higher gears.

Check the cause

  1. Verify system voltage by monitoring the trans battery voltage or testing the battery with a multimeter to ensure it is receiving 12–14 volts (low voltage can trigger false switch codes).

  2. Perform a controller switch test by entering the transmission controller's diagnostic mode (H-Menu/PROG), selecting Channel 4 for upshift, and cycling the switch to see if the controller recognizes the physical input (display changes from 0 to 1).

  3. Check circuit continuity with a multimeter for an open circuit or a short to ground between the switch connector (C103) and the transmission controller pins (C100 & C101).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn the key switch to the OFF position and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Switch

    Remove the mounting plate or console trim on the right-hand armrest or main shift lever to access the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) internals.

  3. Isolate the Switch

    Disconnect the 6-contact connector linking the upshift/downshift switches to the machine harness.

  4. Bench Test the Switch

    Using a multimeter, measure the resistance between the common contact and the Normally Closed (N/C) contact, then the common and Normally Open (N/O) contact while pressing the button. If the switch does not show continuity when pressed, it has failed internally and must be replaced.

  5. Replace or Repair

    If the switch fails the bench test, unbolt the switch assembly from the shift lever and install the replacement part. If the switch passes the bench test, the fault lies in the wiring harness. Trace the wiring back to the TCU, locate the chafed wire or broken pin (commonly found where the harness routes near the transmission housing or armrest pivot), and repair the wire.

  6. Reassembly and Clearing Codes

    Reconnect all harnesses, reinstall the console trim, and reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and verify that the F60 code has moved from 'Active' to 'Stored,' then clear the fault codes and test drive the tractor to confirm upshift functionality.
