Case IH F83 – Transmission / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) Controller: Foot Throttle Sensor Potentiometer Open Circuit Or Short To Ground
Issue description
The controller is not receiving a valid voltage signal from the foot throttle pedal position sensor, either due to a broken connection (open circuit) or a wire shorting directly to the chassis ground.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the foot throttle sensor potentiometer for visible damage, open circuits, or areas where the wire may be rubbing and shorting to the ground.
Turn the key switch to the 'ON' position, disconnect the foot throttle potentiometer, and then re-connect it to see if the controller registers the change or clears the fault.
Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct 5V or 12V reference voltage from the controller.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring harness is intact but the F83 code persists, remove the faulty foot throttle potentiometer from the pedal assembly and install the replacement sensor.
Perform Calibration
According to the MXM Series Calibration Guide, anytime a potentiometer is replaced, or if the non-volatile memory has been reset, a Transmission/EDC Calibration must be performed.
Calibration Setup (Mode HA)
Enter calibration mode (Mode HA). Hold the High and Low range buttons and start the engine until 'CAL' appears in the transmission display. Set the engine speed to 1200 ERPM (±100) and follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the new potentiometer to the transmission controller.
