Case IH FAB – Transmission Controller (Transmission/EDC): Clutch B Solenoid Open Circuit Or Short To Ground

The control module is unable to detect the proper electrical circuit for the Clutch B proportional solenoid valve. The system detects either a broken wire/disconnected plug (open circuit) or a wire that is inappropriately touching the chassis ground (short to ground). When this code is active, the transmission controller will disable the affected clutch circuit to prevent mechanical damage.

   Inspect the transmission wiring harness running from the Transmission Controller to the transmission control valve block for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the plug at the Clutch B solenoid and check for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture inside the connector.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the Clutch B solenoid to check for an internal failure (infinite or zero resistance).

   Check the continuity of the wiring from the solenoid connector back to the transmission controller pins to rule out a broken wire in the harness.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on level ground, place all shift levers in neutral, block the wheels, and disconnect the battery.

   Access the Valve Block

   Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing. Identify the Clutch B solenoid (refer to the specific model's service manual diagram for exact placement on the valve block).

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Clutch B solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts or snap ring holding the solenoid in place and carefully pull the solenoid valve out of the manifold.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert it into the valve block and secure it with the retaining hardware. Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Note: Whenever a PWM solenoid valve is replaced, the transmission non-volatile memory must be reset and the transmission clutches must be recalibrated.

   Calibration Procedure

   Warm up the transmission fluid. Hold the High and Low range buttons and start the engine. ''CAL'' will appear in the transmission display. Release the buttons and set the engine speed to 1200 ERPM. Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle through and calibrate the clutch fill times.
