Case IH FAD – Transmission Controller: Clutch D Solenoid Open Circuit Or Short To Ground

Issue description

This indicates an electrical issue where the circuit controlling the Clutch D solenoid valve is either broken (open) or shorted out to the ground.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors (such as X-301 or C025) between the transmission controller and the Clutch D solenoid valve for open circuits, chafing, or shorts to ground

  2. Test the Clutch D solenoid valve directly to see if the internal coil has failed

  3. Check FNRP (Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park) inputs by rotating the shuttle lever to release any stuck switches, and verify inputs are not shorted to ground or open

  4. Verify battery voltage is sufficient, as low voltage can prevent the clutch solenoids from operating correctly

Repair steps

  1. Repair Wiring

    If an open circuit or short is found in the harness or connectors (such as connector X-301), repair or replace the damaged wiring.

  2. Replace Solenoid

    If the wiring is intact but the fault persists, replace the faulty Clutch D PWM solenoid valve.

  3. Calibrate the Transmission

    Place all shift levers in neutral and lower all equipment to the ground. Block the front and rear wheels. Press and hold the High and Low range buttons, then start the engine. Wait for ''CAL'' to appear on the transmission display, then release the buttons. Set the engine speed to 1200 ERPM (±100) and proceed with the on-screen calibration prompts.
