FC3

Case IH FC3 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Reverse Clutch Not Calibrated

Issue description

Triggered when the transmission controller lacks the necessary calibration values for the reverse clutch engagement. This can happen if a previous calibration procedure was interrupted, failed, or if the transmission controller lost its memory due to a voltage drop or component replacement.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM120
  • MXM130
  • MXM140
  • MXM155
  • MXM175
  • MXM190
  • Magnum

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission fluid temperature (must be warmed up to between 60°C and 105°C / 140°F+)

  2. Ensure the handbrake is applied and the operator is sitting in the seat to activate safety switches

  3. Verify the engine RPM is within the specified calibration range

  4. Ensure the clutch pedal is fully released

  5. Check for other active fault codes (such as F1P) that indicate solenoid circuit damage

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up

Start the tractor and operate it until the transmission fluid reaches at least 60°C (140°F).

  2. Enter Configuration Menu

Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the "Enter" key on the keypad to access the CONFIG MENU.

  3. Navigate to TCU

Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU and press Enter.

  4. Access Calibration

Scroll down to the ETC MENU and press Enter. Then scroll to TRANS SETUP and press Enter. Finally, select Cltch Cal (Clutch Calibration) and press Enter.

  5. Verify Temperature

The screen will display Oil Deg (current hydraulic fluid temperature). If it is within the 60°C - 105°C range, press Enter to proceed.

  6. Execute Calibration

Follow the on-screen prompts. You will be asked to set the engine RPM and move the forward/reverse shuttle lever.

  7. Wait for Completion

The TCU will automatically cycle through the clutches (including the reverse clutch). You will feel slight jolts as the clutches engage and calibrate.

  8. Save and Exit

Once the display indicates the calibration is complete, shift the shuttle lever to neutral and cycle the key switch to save the new values.
