FC5

Case IH FC5 – Transmission Controller / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) or Secondary Controller (CFPS): Creeper Travel Out Of Range

Issue description

The transmission controller is detecting that the creeper gear mechanism has moved beyond its calibrated or expected physical range.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • Case IH MXM 120
  • Case IH MXM 130
  • Case IH MXM 140
  • Case IH MXM 155
  • Case IH MXM 175
  • Case IH MXM 190

Check the cause

  1. Verify if any other error codes are being displayed on the dash. If other codes are present, perform the diagnostic tests for those codes first.

  2. Inspect the physical adjustment of the creeper mechanism to see if it has slipped out of its mechanical range.

Repair steps

  1. Adjust the end of range bolts

Physically adjust the end of range bolts on the creeper mechanism to bring the travel back into the correct specification.

  2. Re-perform the creeper calibration

Once adjusted, run the transmission/creeper calibration procedure.

  3. Test the potentiometer

If the fault re-occurs after calibration, check the creeper potentiometer for electrical faults (such as a short circuit to +8V/+12V or an open circuit/short to ground).

  4. Replace faulty components

If the potentiometer fails the resistance/voltage tests, replace it.

  5. Check for mechanical/controller faults

If the potentiometer is functioning correctly and the code persists, the failure mode is likely a deeper mechanical fault within the transmission or a faulty secondary controller (CFPS).

  6. Clear the code

Once the root cause is rectified, clear the error code and test the tractor for normal operation.

Parts you might need
