Case IH FCA – Transmission Control Module (TCU / CCM): Clutch A Not Calibrated
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the transmission controller does not have a valid calibration value saved for Clutch A. This results in poor clutch performance of the uncalibrated clutch or the transmission being completely disabled. This condition often occurs if a new controller is installed, if the memory was recently cleared (H8 mode), or if there is a physical failure preventing the clutch from completing its calibration cycle.

Check the cause
Attempt Calibration: Perform the transmission calibration procedure to see if the controller can successfully learn the clutch fill times.
Monitor for Sub-Errors: Observe the dash/display during calibration. If the calibration fails, note if any specific calibration errors (such as U-codes indicating RPM issues or temperature issues) are displayed.
Processor History Check: Determine if the transmission processor was recently replaced or if a memory clear (H8 mode) was performed, which naturally wipes the calibration data.
Hydraulic Pressure Test: Pressure test the hydraulic circuit for Clutch A to ensure the clutch pack is receiving adequate fluid pressure.
Repair steps
Run the Calibration Routine
Initiate the tractor's transmission calibration procedure. If the procedure completes successfully and the error clears, the tractor is okay and no parts are needed.
Inspect the PWM Valve
If the calibration cannot be performed successfully, locate the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) solenoid valve for Clutch A on the transmission valve body. Remove the valve, clean it thoroughly, and reinstall it.
Replace the Solenoid
If cleaning the solenoid does not allow the calibration to complete, replace the Clutch A PWM solenoid with a new unit.
Test the Hydraulic Circuit
If a new solenoid does not fix the issue, perform a pressure test on the Clutch A hydraulic circuit. Look for internal leaks or blockages.
Inspect for Mechanical Faults
If the solenoid is functioning and hydraulic pressure is correct, the transmission will need to be split to inspect Clutch A for mechanical faults (e.g., burnt clutch discs or damaged seals).
Processor Replacement
If the fault appeared immediately after a processor change or memory clear and refuses to accept calibration despite good mechanical/hydraulic health, the processor is likely corrupted and must be replaced with one of known performance.
