FCF

Case IH FCF – Transmission Controller (TCU): Low Range Clutch Not Calibrated

Issue description

Triggered when the transmission controller lacks a valid calibration value for the low range clutch. This condition typically occurs when the non-volatile memory in the controller has been reset, a new transmission controller has been installed, a PWM solenoid valve or potentiometer has been replaced, or a mechanical repair has been performed on the transmission.

Applies to these machines

  • MXM
  • MXM Series
  • MXM 120
  • MXM 130
  • MXM 140
  • MXM 155
  • MXM 175
  • MXM 190
  • Maxxum Series
  • Puma Series
  • MX Series
  • TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission oil temperature to ensure it is between 10°C and 105°C (prevents U19, CL, or CH codes)

  2. Ensure engine RPM is stable (prevents U21 or U22 codes)

  3. Verify the shuttle lever is in the neutral position (prevents U23 code)

  4. Check for active electrical fault codes related to the low range clutch solenoid (e.g., FA1, 109, or 2347)

  5. Check battery voltage to ensure it is sufficient to operate clutch solenoids (prevents code 2809)

  6. If calibration repeatedly fails, disconnect the low range clutch solenoid connector and measure resistance between terminal 1 and 2 (should be 8 - 11 Ohms)

Repair steps

  1. Apply the parking brake.

  2. Ensure there are no obstacles around the tractor in case of unexpected movement.

  3. Lower all attached equipment to the ground.

  4. Place all shift levers in the neutral position.

  5. Block the wheels, both front and rear.

  6. Press and hold the High and Low range buttons simultaneously, and start the engine.

  7. Wait for 'CAL' to appear in the transmission display, then release the High and Low range buttons.

  8. Set the engine speed to 1200 ERPM ± 100.

  9. Follow the on-screen prompts to cycle through and calibrate the low range clutch (and any other uncalibrated clutches).

Controls the hydraulic pressure to the transmission clutch packs. Fits Case IH MXM, Maxxum, and Puma series.

  • Transmission Controller (TCU / Microprocessor)

Required if the controller has failed and will no longer store non-volatile memory.

  • Clutch Potentiometer / Clutch Switch

Required if the clutch pedal position cannot be read by the controller (often indicated by secondary codes regarding the clutch pedal switch).
