Case IH G – Hitch Control Module: Hitch drop speed circuit failed

Indicates a Hitch drop speed circuit failure. The hitch control system enters a 'DEGRADED' operational state, automatically defaulting the hitch drop speed to a mid-range setting. If the operator needs the maximum drop rate while this code is active, it can only be achieved by manually holding the RAISE/LOWER switch in the 'LOWER MOMENTARY' position.

   Test the wire harness connecting the drop speed potentiometer to the hitch control module for rubbed-through wires, corrosion, or loose connector pins

   Test the drop speed potentiometer for a smooth resistance/voltage sweep to check for dead spots or an open circuit

   Test the RAISE/LOWER switch for continuity in all positions, as a shorted switch circuit can cascade into drop-speed operational faults

   Enter the hitch calibration mode and check the digital display (if a lowercase 'g' appears, the module is indicating a draft pin circuit failure, not the drop speed circuit)

   Access the Controls

   Remove the side console/armrest trim to access the underside of the hitch control knobs and switches.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic multimeter tests reveal an open or short to ground in the harness, repair the damaged wire or replace the connector pigtail.

   Replace the Potentiometer

   If the wiring is intact but the potentiometer fails the sweep test, unplug the drop speed potentiometer, unbolt it from the console bracket, and install the replacement.

   Replace the Switch

   If the RAISE/LOWER switch is found to be defective during diagnostics, replace it.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing the potentiometer or repairing the harness, clear the stored fault codes and perform a full Hitch Controller Calibration to teach the module the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage values.
