Case IH H3 – Hitch Control Module: Open circuit or short to ground on the raise solenoid circuit

When this fault is detected, the system enters a 'HALT' mode, which disables the hitch control to prevent unintended movement. On some displays, this may also flash alternately as an 'F, 3' code, which specifically indicates a failure in the valve raise solenoid circuit.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors under the cab and at the hitch valve for damaged wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Test the raise coil for proper resistance (specification is 6.4 to 6.8 ohms).

   Perform a direct power test: Supply 12 volts to pin 7 and ground to pin 11 of the 16-pin connector (do not ground directly to the control module). Start the engine to see if the hitch raises to determine if the issue is electrical or mechanical.

   Verify that the Hitch Control Module has good power and ground connections.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and ensure the hitch area is clear of bystanders.

   Test and Repair Wiring

   Based on the visual inspection and continuity tests, repair any broken wires or corroded connectors in the raise solenoid circuit.

   Replace the Solenoid Coil

   If the resistance test in the diagnostic phase yielded a result outside of the 6.4 - 6.8 ohms range, or if the coil is internally shorted to ground, remove the retaining nut on the hitch valve and replace the raise coil.

   Test the System

   Reconnect all harnesses. Turn the key switch on and observe the hitch display. The '3' should clear to a '0' when the system is functioning correctly.

   Replace the Controller (If Necessary)

   If the wiring harness tests good for continuity, the coil resistance is within spec, and the direct power test successfully raises the hitch, the Hitch Control Module has likely suffered an internal driver failure. Clear the fault code and cycle the key switch; if the H3 code immediately returns, replace the Hitch Control Module.
