Case IH Hh – Header Controller (HDR) / Header Height Control module: Short to 12V - raise solenoid driver

The controller has detected that the internal driver circuit responsible for powering the header raise solenoid is shorted to a 12-volt power source. When this occurs, the system enters a Halt mode to prevent unintended operation or damage.

   Check the wiring harness running from the header controller to the header raise solenoid for any chafing, melted insulation, or exposed copper that could cause a short to 12 volts.

   Disconnect the raise solenoid and use a multimeter to check the resistance across the terminals (pins 7 and 11 on the test harness) to verify if the coil is within specification.

   Verify the voltage reaching the solenoid to ensure it is receiving the correct voltage.

   Check for an internal failure of the Header Control Module itself, as the fault specifically calls out the driver.

   Turn off the combine, lower the header to the ground (if possible), and remove the key.

   Locate the main hydraulic valve stack where the header raise and lower solenoids are mounted.

   Identify the header raise solenoid.

   Often designated as solenoid #1 or #4 depending on the specific valve block.

   Disconnect the electrical connector to the raise solenoid.

   Inspect the connector pins for corrosion or bridging.

   Test the solenoid coil with a multimeter.

   If the solenoid is shorted or out of specification, replace the solenoid coil.

   Remove the Header Control Module from the cab console and replace or repair it.

   Perform this step if the external wiring and solenoid test good, indicating the short is inside the Header Control Module's internal driver.

   After replacing the faulty component, clear the stored error codes.

   On the diagnostic display, navigate to the HC menu to clear all codes (the display will show EE then HH to indicate the memory has been successfully reset).

   Perform a header raise/lower calibration.

   This ensures the new components are recognized and functioning correctly.
